Bees striker Nikita Whinnett expressed her delight after she opened her account for London Bees as she scored the only goal in the 1-0 away win at Blackburn.
Whinnett scored after 39 minutes as she lobbed the keeper and her goal proved to be the winner in a frantic game in the Lancashire sunshine.
She said “I am absolutely ecstatic to be on the scoresheet, but of course the most important thing is the three points in the league”
“It was a tough game this afternoon to be honest, we didn’t make it easy for ourselves, it was physical and end to end. Thankfully we came out on top in the end”
Whinnett was one of many in an amber shirt to impress this afternoon (Sunday), despite the fact the Bees are struggling with somewhat of a depleted squad, but the striker hailed the attitude and depth in the squad.
“It’s fantastic that we haven’t quite got the full squad, but we have come here and pulled off a result. We have had to graft here this afternoon and the hardworking has paid off”
The Bees number 17 was quick to praise the superb pass from Georgia Robert that sent her on her way to goal.
“It was a fantastic ball from Georgia. I had seen the keeper off her line a couple of times, so I knew what I was going to do when I got the ball through. I hoped for the best and in it went!”
Whinnett is a number of new players in at The Hive London this season and she has highlighted just how happy she is to be enjoying her football again.
“If I’m honest this is the most I have enjoyed my football, since I was at Tottenham. It is very professional here, I love the girls here and I fit in real well. Now it’s all about kicking on”
