The Bees were knocked out of the County Cup – losing 3-1 to AFC Wimbledon Ladies at The Hive London, Pitch A.
The game got off to a quick start as the Dons pushed to find an opener. In the second minute, a back pass was intercepted by a Wimbledon player who shot to force Faye Hazelton into a low save.
The Bees first chance of the game came shortly after when a neat through-ball from Jade Bell played Nikki Jancey in behind the Dons centre-backs, but the resulting shot was straight at the goalkeeper.
The Dons had their own chances moments later. Megan Stow found Ashlee Hincks in the box who lifted her shot over the bar. Shortly after, Wimbledon’s No. 17 shot from the edge of the box as it fizzed narrowly wide.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when a cross from Chloe Sampson found Hincks in the box who was able to tap home from close-range.
The Bees nearly equalised straight away as a powerful shot across goal from Meg Wood rebounded off the far post and was eventually cleared to safety.
Kevin Foster’s side scored their second of the game in the 18th minute.
Sarah Wentworth got on the end of a corner towards the near post who headed past Hazelton and doubled their advantage.
The Bees looked to pull one back and pressed high which allowed Lauren Heria to dispossess Steph Mann on the edge of the Dons’ box before passing to Jancey, whose shot towards goal went straight at the ‘keeper.
Wimbledon added another in the 45th minute when a direct 25-yard free-kick from Hincks found the top left corner.
Interplay between Bell, Jancey, and Wood nearly got the Bees back into the game midway through the second half but the resulting shot went just wide.
Soon after, Megan Stow capitalised on a poor clearance from the Bees defence and struck the ball narrowly past the post.
The next notable chance of the half came over ten minutes later when Bell made a mazy run from her own box all the way to the touchline.
The debutant cut the ball back across goal to Jancey who hit the crossbar from close-range, before it was chaotically cleared for a corner.
In the first minute of injury time Jade Bell capped off a fine individual performance with an eye-catching goal as she unleashed one into the top-left corner from the edge of the box on the volley – but despite the 28-year-old’s best efforts, the Bees bowed out of the County Cup.
