London Bees vs Cambridge United

 

The Bees are back to winning wins, following a 3-0 victory at home to Cambridge United.

 

From the start of the match the Bees were demonstrating that they mean business, creating some early chances against the opposition in the opening minutes.

 

Cambridge’s defence had a challenge on their hands, with Shamoy Campbell sprinting the ball down the right hand side of the field, looking for that opportunity to give the Bees an early lead.

 

Millie Isherwood come very close to making the score 1-0 in the 17th minute, as Shamoy Campbell cross the ball low into the box from the right, finding the foot of Millie Isherwood, who unfortunately miss places her step and the ball is rolled into the goalkeeper’s hands.

 

The Bees continued to press on, staying focused and determined to get that opening goal.

 

Finally, all the Bees chances paid off, as Mira Hoteit struck the ball with power and accuracy from the right of the box into the bottom left corner, making it 1-0 to the Bees in the 32nd minute.

 

This goal motivated the Bees to want more, hanging onto the possession and firing chances into the box from both sides, but the Cambridge defence were making sure it didn’t go any further.

 

Half-Time 1-0

 

As the second half went underway the Bees picked up from right where they left off.

 

In the 47th minute, Sam Lanza leaped into the air, connecting with the ball from a brilliant cross and firing it into the back of the net, extending the Bees lead by two.

 

Cambridge started to push back more in the second half, playing through chances down the sides of the box, hoping a cross would find it’s way through to a U’s attacking player, but it was kept away by the Bees back line.

 

In order to a have a firm grip on the game, the Bees held the ball well in the centre of the pitch, ensuring the ball didn’t enter their half as well as keeping hold of the possession.

 

Shamoy Campbell found herself with the ball on the edge of the box in the 65th minute and decides to test her luck by launching it towards goal.

 

However, the ball had too much height on it and flew over the bar, resulting in a goal kick to Cambridge.

 

As the game was entering the 70th minute, Aimee Durn spotted an opening in the Cambridge defence and played a brilliant ball through to Millie Isherwood who found herself one on one with the keeper.

 

Calm and collective Millie Isherwood curved the ball past the keeper, placing it perfectly into the bottom right corner, adding her name on the scoresheet and giving the Bees a well-earned lead.

 

Within the final ten minutes of the game, Cambridge was looking to salvage something from this game, cementing the ball inside the Bees half.

 

The Bees held the line, stopping any opportunity of losing the lead and the clean sheet.

 

Tia Ginn protected her goal well, catching the ball from any last-minute high crosses into the box and launching it back up field for the Bees to push out of their half.

 

After holding on in the final minutes the referee blew for full-time, and the Bees were named victorious.
