In case you missed it in yesterday’s matchday programme, please see the following message from Meg Alexander, who has an exciting announcement to make!
Hi Bees fans,
Firstly I hope you’re all doing well and keeping safe. It’s amazing to have the season start and I hope to see as many of you back at the Hive cheering us on when it’s safe to do so.
On a personal note, I’ll be taking a bit of an extended break as I’m expecting my first child. I have been going through my own changes recently but it’s the most magical experience and I feel very special to have this little miracle growing inside me. Female pregnancies in the women’s game are rarely heard or spoken about so it’s very hard to get information about. Having said that London bees has been fantastic, from the staff to the players they have all been so supportive. I feel very special that my little girl will have this football family to grow into and be part of. She will be so loved and I can’t wait for her to come to games and experience a game among you guys.
Like previously mentioned pregnancies in female football are hard to get information about but I have been able to do some form of exercise during pregnancy and I hope to carry this on until closer to my due date. When I look at my career I’m very proud of what I have achieved so far and becoming a mother will be my proudest moment yet. My journey at London bees has only just begun and I was disappointed to not play as much last season due to my injury. Therefore, I want to get back on that pitch and show you fans and the club what I’m capable of, so I help push this club forward. Having my little girl will make me even more determined as I want her to be able to watch me play and be proud of me.
This is another part of my journey and one I hope you can all be part of. Captaining this team has been a massive honour and I can’t wait to get back out there in the new year with the armband on one arm and my little girl on the other. She will become a massive Bees fan and I can’t wait for you all to meet her.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support. The girls are ready to bounce back this Sunday and start the season off at home in style. The staff have done really well to keep the squad and recruited some quality players. I’m excited for this season and until my little one comes along; I’ll be in the stands cheering the team on.
I hope to be back out on that pitch in the new year captaining this fantastic team and see the second half of the season out but until then stay safe and see you all in the stands.
Alex x
