Bees boss Lee Burch was in a reflective mood following the opening day 2-0 defeat to City Lionesses at The Hive yesterday.

The visitors struck either side of half time to take all three points in a hotly contested game, where both sides could’ve and perhaps should’ve added goals.

Despite the defeat, Burch wanted to take the positives from a difficult afternoon for his side.

“We’re really looking forward to watching the footage back and working on the things that we need to. It’s only the first game of the season and we played a full-time side, there are plenty more positives than negatives to take from the game”

“We were beaten by two deflections, the first one is a good header from their player and the second takes a deflection off our player. We had a great chance at 1-0, which we really should have taken. It was a tight game with chances at both ends and they managed to take two of theirs”

There were many superb individual performances in the Bees side yesterday and Burch hailed the efforts of his side.

“With the squad where we’re at, at the moment there were so many good performances all over the pitch, Amelia Hazard has come back from injury to put in a really good performance and added lots of quality. All in all today’s performances were good”

“We should be better for Blackburn next weekend, its all about being as ready as possible for the game. Today has been a real learning curve for everybody, I am looking forward to the squad as a whole competing for places”

There were over 400 spectators at The Hive yesterday and the new manager was quick to thank the supporters for their backing of the Bees.

“It’s great to see and I’m hoping that continues. I want people to come here and enjoy the type of football we are playing. There will be lots of goals and hopefully plenty of wins!”
