The London Bees are back in league action this Sunday (2pm) as they host Cambridge United in the FAWNL Division One South East.

London Bees:

London Bees bowed out of the FAWNL Plate Cup after a narrow 3–2 defeat to Gwalia United in a hard-fought and often dramatic contest in South Wales.

Gwalia started sharply, scoring twice inside the opening minutes with a well-taken strike from the edge of the box and a back-post header from a corner.

The Bees responded with renewed intensity, pressing high and pulling one back when Lily Whitelock broke down the flank and delivered a superb ball for Betty Larkin to finish powerfully.

The match became a tight midfield battle, with Sam Lanza and Whitelock both testing the Gwalia goalkeeper before Thea Budden was forced off through injury.

After the break, Gwalia threatened again and eventually restored their two-goal cushion when a cross deflected off Megan Burrows and looped in.

The Bees pushed forward, with Whitelock twice denied by strong saves, but their momentum was stalled when Millie Isherwood was sin-binned late on.

Larkin struck her second of the game with a composed finish into the bottom corner, but despite a late rally, the Bees ran out of time as Gwalia held on to progress.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s fixture, London Bees assistant manager Tim Abramyan said:

“Cambridge gave us a tough game in the cup a few weeks ago and they’ll be looking to make it difficult again.

We are excited to get back to league action and we’ll be focusing on putting in a good performance”

Cambridge United:

In their recent fixture, Cambrifge United travelled to face MK Dons for a midweek match in the FAWNL Division One South East.

The U’s took the lead in the 22nd minute when Jade Bell’s cross found Kim Farrow, who improvised brilliantly with a diving header into the bottom corner.

Cambridge pushed for a second, with Abbie Jackson and Mia Richards both going close before half-time.

After the break Lauren Webb denied Molly Lemon a goal, but the hosts equalised on the rebound through Giusy Carnevale before captain Favour Omenazu headed in from a corner to make it 2–1.

Cambridge responded well, and substitute Molly Sutherland levelled with a crisp low strike from the edge of the box.

The U’s pressed for a winner late on, striking the bar through Zoe Wood, while MK Dons ended the match with ten players after a stoppage-time red card for Lemon.

Despite a final effort from Becca Stephenson, Cambridge couldn’t find the breakthrough and the points were shared.

Sean Greygoose was appointed as Head Coach of Cambridge United Women’s First Team in June 2025, having previously led the club’s Under-18s side.

In his two years in charge of the U18s, he achieved two top three finishes in the league and guided the team to a County Cup final, helping develop players who made the step up into senior women’s football.

Ones to watch:

Cambridge United forward Jade Bell is the clubs and league current top goal scorer, contributing fourteen goals by hitting the back of the net eleven times and assisting three in ten appearances for the U’s.

Last time these two sides met:

The Bees held on to grab a 4-3 win away to Cambridge United last month which saw Dan McKimm’s side progress through to the next round of the FAWNL Plate Cup.

The Bees burst into life early on, with Millie Isherwood tapping in a rebound from Lily Whitelock’s effort before Brionne Fowle quickly added a second from Thea Budden’s superb pass.

Cheyenne Flynn’s powerful header from a corner made it 3–0 at the break, and Isherwood struck again early in the second half to extend the lead.

Cambridge then staged a rapid comeback, scoring twice in a minute before converting a penalty to close the gap to 4–3.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser, but the Bees held firm, with goalkeeper Emma Roberts producing a crucial late save to secure the win.

After their FAWNL Plate Cup exit, Dan McKimm’s side will turn their attention back to the league this Sunday, determined to respond positively and push further up the table.
