The Bees begin their Adobe Women’s FA Cup journey this Sunday at 2pm, as they host Colchester United at The Bees Stadium in a third-round qualifying clash.
London Bees:
London Bees pulled off a brilliant second-half comeback to beat Crystal Palace U21s 3–2 in their final FAWNL Cup group stage match at The Bees Stadium.
After a goalless first half, with both sides battling for control and Tia Ginn making several key saves, it was Palace who struck first, finding the net from close range early in the second half.
The visitors quickly added a second, reacting quickest to a rebound after Ginn had made a fine stop.
Despite going two goals down, the Bees didn’t drop their heads.
Lily Whitelock came off the bench and made an immediate impact, driving forward and teeing up Millie Isherwood, who calmly slotted home to halve the deficit.
The equaliser came not long after, and it was Isherwood again, this time bending in a stunning free kick to bring the sides level.
With the game deep into added time, the referee blew for full-time and the Bees had completed the comeback.
London Bees last five results:
London Bees 3-2 Crystal Palace Academy (FAWNL League Cup)
London Bees 1-2 Norwich City
London Bees 0-0 Chatham Town
Hashtag United 2-2 London Bees (FAWNL League Cup)
MK Dons 0-4 London Bees
In the dugout:
Ahead of this Sunday’s Adobe WFA Cup clash, assistant coach Tim Abramyan said:
“The players demonstrated excellent focus and application throughout the week.
Although our performance last Sunday was not at the level, we expect of ourselves, the players worked hard to come back from 0:2 and win the game.
It has been very pleasing to see the team apply themselves in training to ensure we return to our usual standards this weekend.
The FA Cup provided us with many memorable moments last season and we are determined to build on that success again this year, one round at a time.”
Colchester United:
Colchester United Women are the official women’s team of Colchester United, relaunched in 2023 as part of the club’s push to grow the women’s game in the area.
They play in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League and are steadily building momentum both on and off the pitch.
In their recent fixture, Colchester United Women were on the wrong side of an eight-goal contest on Sunday, falling 5–3 to Chelmsford City in an entertaining but frustrating afternoon for the U’s.
Billie-Jo Williams opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark after a clever flick-on from Daisy Canny set her up with a close-range finish.
Chelmsford hit back almost immediately with a well-worked equaliser, but the U’s responded again, this time Canny pounced on a loose ball after her initial shot was saved to make it 2–1.
The game turned just before half-time after two quickfire goals in added time saw Chelmsford go into the break 3–2 up.
City added a fourth early in the second half, and while Colchester continued to create chances, they couldn’t find the cutting edge needed.
A fifth goal on 65 minutes gave Chelmsford breathing room, though Canny grabbed her second of the game ten minutes from time after intercepting a poor back-pass and rounding the keeper.
Colchester United results:
Chelmsford City 5-3 Colchester United
Enfield Town 1-2 Colchester United
Colchester United 7-3 Wormley Rovers
Colchester United 5-0 Cambridge Rangers
Stanway Pegasus 3-3 Colchester United
In the opposition dugout:
Colchester United manager Milly Morgan will be in the dugout for the U’s this Sunday.
Milly was officially named Head Coach of Colchester United Women in June 2025, following a successful interim spell. She initially took charge towards the end of the 2024–25 season.
Ones to watch:
Colchester United forward Lindsey Morgan is currently the club’s top scorer this season, netting 8 goals in just 7 appearances and adding 6 assists for the U’s.
Lindsey also grabbed the winning goal in the U’s 2-1 victory over Enfield Town in their previous WFA Cup clash.
Last time these two sides met:
The London Bees last faced Colchester United on the 29th of August 2010, in a league cup fixture that resulted in a 2-1 home win for the Bees.
Dan McKimm will be hoping his side can make a strong statement in the WFA Cup this Sunday, as they look to recreate past glory and write a new chapter in their cup journey.
