Following the Bees, 7-0 home defeat to FA Women’s Championship leaders Leicester City Women, Head Coach Sian Osmond called for her side to dig deep and fight for every remaining point in our last three matches.
The Bees held the Foxes for 40 minutes, but two late first-half goals but the league leaders in a commanding position at the break. Then a flurry of five second-half goals, saw Leicester City runaway as emphatic winners at The Hive London.
She said: “It was a really tough day and we’re going to have to take a long hard look at what went wrong today. Losing 7-0 isn’t acceptable, we know the situation we’re in and we have to fight tooth and nail for absolutely everything. I think we were a bit off that to be honest.
“It’s tough for the group, but we can’t find any excuses, at the bare minimum we have to give 110%, we have a talented group of girls here and we all believe in them. We frustrated them for large parts of the first half and they looked to change things and we have to adapt to that. We prepared, we knew what qualities they have and what threats they would bring but we just didn’t match it today. All in all we just didn’t do our part in that today.
“We need to focus on ourselves and really cement what we want to do with these next three games, no one wants to finish the season on a low point. We know it’s massively important to go out there and fight. We need to make sure we find that fighting spirit because we have plenty of quality to go and get results. We can be a threat to our upcoming opponents, we just have to work as hard as we can to get ourselves in a position to compete.”
