The London Bees are back at The Hive this Sunday (2pm) as the take on Cambridge United in the Division One South East League.

London Bees:

Dan McKimm’s Bees will be itching to get back on the pitch this weekend as last weeks fixture away to Queens Park Rangers was postponed due to a flooded pitch.

The Bees travelled down to the Skyex Community Stadium last Sunday to face QPR in the Division One South East League.

With only a couple of hours till kick off, strong winds and heavy rain picked up, that soon surrounded the ground, causing harsh treatment on the pitch.

The referee decided on a pitch inspection with less than an hour to go, and upon inspection the referee had no choice but to postpone the game, resulting in a reschedule.

Dulwich Hamlet were the recent visitors to The Hive, as the Bees took on the Hamlets in the Capital Women’s Cup, resulting in a 2-0 lost to the hosts.

Hamlet had most of the possession in the opening minutes of the game, which later proved effective as the Bees went 1-0 behind to the visitors, as Martha Goodard opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the match.

This goal motivated the Bees to push on, taking hold of the possession and creating chances towards the oppositions net.

Millie Isherwood created the first chance for the Bees, striking the ball towards goal but was denied by the keeper, pushing it out for a Bees corner.

Hayley Hoare delivered the ball into the box and was connected well by Rebekah Wozniak, who headed the ball off the post, giving her the chance to rebound the ball back into the left side of the net, levelling the score and making it 1-1 in the 21st minute.

The first 45 minutes ended with the scores tied, when both teams returned from the break the ball was being evenly distributed down each end with chances coming from either side.

But it was Dulwich who took the lead once again, as Erin Corrigan placed the ball in the back of the net following an unfortune error by Tia Ginn in goal, making the final score of the game 2-1 to the visitors.

London Bees last five results:

Cambridge United:

Cambridge United have only played one game of 2025 so far, which came at a 5-2 away defeat to Chesham United in the Division One South East League.

Chesham United got the game going very early into the first half as the hosts opened the scoring in the 1st minute thanks to a goal by Steph Weston.

The hosts kept piling the pressure on the U’s as at the ten-minute mark Natalia Makowska double the lead for the hosts, giving them an early firm grip of the game.

The second half wasn’t much better for the U’s when Chesham’s Gemma Fraser scored two goals within the space of ten minutes, increasing the hosts lead.

The goals didn’t stop there as just only five minutes later, Steph Weston got her second of the game in the 70th minute, giving the host five goals in the match and what looked to be a certain three points.

Cambridge United attempted to get themselves back in the game, as they were able to pick up two goals, shortening the gap between the hosts.

However, Cambridge United were unable to pull the game back and Chesham United secured the win at home, adding the full three points to the table.

Cambridge United last five results:

Chesham United 5-2 Cambridge United

Cambridge United 1-0 London Seaward

Cambridge United 2-0 Norwich City

Actonians 1-5 Cambridge United

AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Cambridge United

In the opposition dugout:

Darren Marjoram will be in the away dugout for Cambridge United this Sunday. Marjoram and his side finished off 2024 with an impressive run of form in the league, winning all three of their games for December.

Scoring eight goals and conceding one, and from this run of form Darren Marjoram was recently nominated for the FA Women’s National League Manager of the Month for December.

However, his side didn’t have the best start to the 2025 year, as they lost their first game away to Chesham United in the league, we the score 5-2 to the hosts.

Ones to watch:

Cambridge United striker Isabella Simmons is the clubs current top goal scorer this season, scoring nine goals in thirteen appearances for the U’s, and she is also the fourth highest goal scorer in the league this season.

Last time these two sides met:

The U’s hosted the Bees in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, where Dan McKimm and his side took all three points from the game from a comfortable 4-0 victory away from home.

The Bees showed a strong sign of dominance earlier on within the game, as Millie Isherwood took the lead instantly for the Bees, firing a shot past Lauren Webb in goal making it 1-0 in the 1st minute.

Dan McKimm’s Bees were showing no sign of backing down, by securing a second goal before the clock had even reached the tenth minute.

The Bees produced a great run of play inside the Cambridge half, which gave Sophie Lee a clear run onto goal, slotting the ball in the bottom left corner of the net in the 8th minute.

Throughout the first half the Bees were firmly in control, creating chance after chance looking for that third of the game.

U’s goalkeeper Lauren Webb was helping keep her side within the chance of redeeming themselves, however on the half hour mark the Bees were given a corner kick, which was crossed into the box and headed into the goal by Rebekha Wozniak, ensuring the Bees had a firm lead heading into the break.

As the second half was underway, the hosts were looking for an opening in the first few minutes.

A chance came early on as Cambridge moved on into the attacking area but was denied by Mira Hoteit who cleared the ball away and stopping any chance of Cambridge coming back into the game.

An hour into the game and the Bees weren’t making it any easier for the hosts, as Hailey Hoare added her name to the score sheet with a great effort on goal from outside the box which flew into the top left corner, giving Lauren Webb in goal no chance to reach it.

The referee blew the full-time whistle, ending the misery for Cambridge and signalling victory for the Bees with three more points added to the table.

Dan McKimm will be looking for his side to produce another goal fest against the U’s on Sunday, motivating his team to do the double over the visitors and hopefully secure the Bees their first win of 2025.
