Sian, it was a tough afternoon at Southampton. What are your initial thoughts on the game?

“We knew it was going to be a tough game against quality opposition. Southampton have been superb so far this season, so we knew what we were facing coming in.

“I do think that our girls had some good moments. We conceded a couple of goals from individual errors though.

“There were several passages of good play from Southampton that you have to credit them for.

“I think we restricted them for large periods of the game and had some great periods on the ball as well.”

The squad has been suffering from injuries lately. Do you think that had an impact on the result today?

“We have got a few key players out at the moment that are struggling, but I trust the squad that I have and the girls that were out there today earned their places within the team.

“I would not say it should have an impact, because I believe in the ability of every single person on the pitch today. They all worked their socks off.

“The result is not what we were hoping for, but it is one that we will have to move forward from.”

There was a full debut for Megan Wood today. Alongside that, what positives can you take from the game and how excited are you to see more of her in the future?

“It was great to get Meg over the line during the week, we were not sure if it was going to go through towards the end, but I am so pleased that it has. It was great to see her out on the pitch.

“She offers something different to what we already have. Megan has a bit more height and physicality in those one-on-one battles.

“I was really pleased with her today, particularly because it was a slightly different role for her that she is trying to get used to.

“There were periods of play that were pleasing to watch, and if we had extended our pressure on them, we could have created more.

“We made them work hard for their goals and we know what the next steps are for us in the build-up for next week.”

We play Ipswich Town at home next weekend who are another of the unbeaten teams in the league. How will you prepare for that game?

“We will prepare in a similar way as normal as we will focus on ourselves.

“Obviously, we will look at the opposition and see what they have to offer but it is important we continue to work on what we want to do both in and out of possession.

“It is important that we keep focusing and building on what we are starting to grow here.

“It is a new group that we are adding to as the weeks go on and once we can get ourselves settled and find some consistency we will have some really good football to play.”
