Sian, a 2-1 defeat to Southampton. What is your take on tonight?
“We are really disappointed to lose because we performed with a lot of character and determination.
“I think we pushed one of the best teams in this league right until the last minute.
“It is certainly a performance that we can be proud of.
“We knew we needed a response after our last match and we definitely saw that today.
“We are pleased with what we achieved tonight despite being on the wrong end of the result.”
Despite the result you must be happy with the player’s efforts especially in the second-half?
“Yes I am as we created opportunities against a top side.
“We made Southampton look nervous towards the end of the game and that is credit to the effort from our players.
“Yes, we are disappointed with the result, but this is a good team who are fighting for promotion.
“If we can continue to perform like we have tonight, we should get ourselves into a good position at the end of the season.”
How frustrating was it to go two goals down so early on given the preparation we had put into the match?
“It was frustrating as we had put work into our defence off the back of the Portsmouth game.
“We did not do ourselves any favours in how we played at the start of the match and caused ourselves issues which led to the goals.
“The biggest thing for the coaching team is the reaction that we got off the back of conceding.
“We started to put together some nice passing movements and played good football against a strong team.
“We created opportunities and quite easily could have had more on the scoresheet.”
Jo Wilson added another one to her tally tonight. What did you think of her performance?
“Joey deserved it because the work-rate that she put in today was unbelievable.
“She was absolutely fantastic and she should be proud of her performance.”
There were a few big saves from Faye Hazelton today. What do you think that will do to her confidence?
“I hope Faye’s confidence continues to build as it has done all season.
“Faye did make some big saves throughout the match and she needs to enjoy them because she worked so hard to get to where she is now.
“I am pleased for her tonight and I think she will carry on improving.”
How important is it that we can now build on all the positives from today’s match?
“It is very important that we can do that and it is something that we have said to the players after the game tonight.
“We need to build on today and continue to perform how we know we can.
“The difference between the Portsmouth game and tonight’s performance is huge.
“We want to finish this season well and if we perform like that then we will give ourselves a great opportunity to do so.”
It is not the result that the fans wanted but I am sure they will appreciate the player’s efforts?
“It was fantastic to see our fans here again tonight.
“There were a lot of Southampton supporters but we had quite a few of our own which is always fantastic to see.”
