The Barnet FC Women’s Walking Football Team made their debut at the Middlesex FA Women’s Walking Football Festival, held at Rectory Park on Sunday the 21st of September, which proved to be a fantastic occasion for all involved.

Managed by Shaun Ashley, the team played four matches at the festival, securing impressive wins against Uxbridge Amblers (3–0), Denham (1–0), and Brentford (2–0), with their only defeat coming in a narrow 0–1 loss to Watford.

The Bees were led by team captain Davina Helman, who said “growing up there was no opportunity in school to play football and I had to play in men’s teams to be able to play, but thanks to the Barnet FC Walking Football teams, it’s amazing to be given this opportunity”

Hanna Muir scored three goals for her side on the day and reflecting on the experience, she said “It was our first tournament, and we won three games, considering we had never played or even trained as a team before, we did bloom good! The day was very epic, and I had lots of fun.”

There were standout performances from goalkeeper Judith Saloman, who kept an impressive three clean sheets, and midfielder Karen Archibald, who was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet after hitting the post five times across the four matches.

Vijy Khimani was the latest recruit to join the walking football side and speaking on her debut she said “I have never played football and I am so proud and excited to be given this opportunity to play in a pioneering team, learning and developing together. We look forward to joining the new league next year.”

A big congratulations to all who played and to everyone who take part in the Barnet FC Women’s Walking football team.
